Jordan King has won the Driver of the Year award for the 2015 Young Driver Excellence Academy, which is run by the FIA Institute, a long-term Patterrn client.
The award was announced at the Academy graduation ceremony, held at the end of the final workshop, which took place in Melk, Austria, this week.
The Academy judges were not only impressed by King’s speed and consistency throughout the process, but also his knowledge and appreciation of safety procedures, as well as his dedication to improve.
As part of his prize, Academy Performance Managers Alex Wurz and Robert Reid will assist King in his career progression, ensuring he has the chance to meet key people and develop opportunities in the sport.
Alex Wurz said: “Despite the high level of talent demonstrated by the Academy drivers this year, Jordan’s skills and understanding stood out throughout the process and he is a well-deserved winner. I have no doubt that Jordan, and the rest of the Academy drivers, will go on to achieve great success in motor sport and build on the foundations we have helped them create.”
King is currently participating in the 2015 GP2 series and is also development driver for the Manor F1 team. The 21-year-old was delighted to be named Academy Driver of the Year and hopes to continue that success in his motor sport career.
He is one of 11 drivers to graduate from this year’s programme, each receiving a certificate to mark their achievement. Every participant fully engaged with all aspects of the curriculum and will now become ambassadors for the FIA Institute and its safety message.
The final workshop of 2015 focused on advanced driving and the participants completed a mixture of theoretical and practical activities, as well as taking part in a karting race and a race-track evaluation session.
